When the village’s soccer field was sold, the community kept looking for a way to care for a shared place anyway. So they built one. Salón Comunal Las Tumbas is what came of it: a soccer field, a covered galerón, a community salon, a kitchen, and bathrooms, set against the mountains above Las Tumbas de Barú.
It’s a gathering place first: fairs, meetings, family celebrations, community meals, sports, volunteer workdays, mutual aid. Every donation and expense is tracked in a public ledger, open for anyone to see where the work goes.
What’s been accomplished
- Rebuilt the salon’s roof and structure (2023).
- Finished fencing and gates (2024 to 2025).
- Added tables and finishing details to the salon (2026).
- Kept every donation and expense open in a public ledger since the rebuild began.
A kitchen and play area are still being finished, piece by piece.
